Pour Lab is fun and easy to use. Just follow these four steps to start making perfect pour over at home:
The ideal brewing temp for pour over is 185-195 degrees. Water boils at 212 degrees, let your kettle cool for a bit after it whistles. If you want to get fancy, you can use a kettle with a digital read out, or a simple hot liquids thermometer.
Place your cups or carafes on the wood platform, the glass cones in the rings above, adjust the height, and put in the filters.
Measure in your grounds. 2Tbsp (1/8 cup) grounds per 6-8 fl. oz. of water will make for a robust, flavorful cup. Your grind should be fine, but still a bit gritty, not quite pulverized like espresso.
Start by just saturating the grounds and letting the coffee absorb the water and 'bloom' for about 30 seconds. Then resume your pour. Go slowly, trying to match the rate that the coffee is flowing out into your cup. As you pour, make a small, slow circular motion with the water over the center of the grounds. A small swan neck kettle makes it very easy to control your pour rate, but you probably have a something in your kitchen that will work nicely.
